The Storm botnet is sharing the love this week with a new spam run aimed at taking the romance out of Valentine’s Day.

Security firm MessageLabs said that Valentine’s Day spam currently accounts for almost two per cent of all spam sent globally on a daily basis. The vast majority of these messages contain a header like ‘Looking for that perfect Valentine’s Day gift?’ or ‘Make Valentine’s Day Night a memorable one’.

Although Valentine’s Day is proving to be another opportunity for spammers to capitalise on their victims, overall spam levels have dropped marginally from their December high to account for 96.8 per cent of all email scanned during January by SoftScan.

“This storm might help me in filling my empty inbox.”

Apple and Sony are engaged in a “fierce battle” as both firms race to create next-generation super-thin laptop computers, a market watcher predicted today. Both companies are attempting to create “size-zero catwalk computers”.

Apple’s super-thin MacBook Air, launched by Steve Jobs at Macworld 2008, is “very smart” and offers an insight into how Apple is positioning itself. The competitive price tag of $1,799 substantially undercuts main rival Sony, even if the design is distinctly old-fashioned.

Company believes that consumers will tolerate the sacrifice of original design and technology, including the device’s solitary USB port.”The Leopard operating software it uses is superior to
Windows Vista, enabling people to remotely search for files on all computers connected totheir network.Leopard is a simple tool to manage rich multimedia applications and provides an easier stream of content.

Microsoft, the leading software giant has filed a patent for a system to monitor the health and mental state of computer users. The patent, outlines a system that checks the computer use of an employee, for example, by logging actions such as web pages visited or words typed. The system matches the actions in real time with heart rate, breathing, body temperature, facial expressions
and blood pressure via wireless sensors.

The system can automatically detect frustration or stress in the user via physiological and environmental sensors, and offer or provide some assistance accordingly. From this data, statistics
related to performance, success rate, frequency of problem, and the like, can be provided to users or can be employed to gauge a target user’s success, performance or efficiency with respect to other users.”

The patent application also suggests monitoring people for longer periods to determine who would be most suitable for particular jobs by identifying apparent strengths and weaknesses.

“In other words a free regular checkup for the employees”
